    Windows Server 2008 IPv6

    Hi

I am installing some new servers and had planned for everything apart from ipv6.

The install went fine and I am loving Server 2008 so far... I set up a manual ip for the IPv4 and then when I went to run dcpromo, it said that I have a dynamic ip... I was a bit confused, but then I checked and realised that I was using a dynamic IPv6 address.

I understand IPv6 addresses as far as reading them goes, but I have no idea about anything else - which ranges are private etc.

     What would you do?

Would you leave ipv6 on in the private link-local range or uninstall it?.... or implement a IPv6 enviroment?

     Thanks!

Probably just uninstall it unless you have an explicit requirement.

I'd go with Ray on this one!

I found this site really useful on private address

    Re: Windows Server 2008 IPv6

    Private address for IPv6

Any Address that start 0000:0000 are considered to be private.

Loopback address for testing etc is 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:00001 or in its cut down form just type ::1

If you are thinking of implementing an IPv6 environment make sure all your hardware (i.e. Routers etc) are compatible

    .

    Re: Windows Server 2008 IPv6

    Hi

I will uninstall it, I have no need to run IPV6

I am trying to install Exchange 2007 and am coming up against a brick wall as it does not allow empty / link-local ipv6 addresses.

After doing a bit of research, you only get this problem on server 2k8... uninstalling ipv6 does not help, so I guess I will be installing exchange on 2k3.

This is the problem I have been having : http://www.exchangeinbox.com/article.aspx?i=111

I would not mind doing ipv6, but it has taken me months to plan this ipv4 layout, I dont fancy starting from scratch again!
